21 Bonkers Pics From Crispin Glover's Legendary 1987 Appearance On 'Late Night With David Letterman'
Despite landing starring roles in works like Back to the Future, Charlie's Angels, and American Gods, Crispin Glover has a different claim to fame in the world of late-night television: Nearly kicking David Letterman in the head.
In July 1987, Glover stopped by Letterman's eponymous talk show to promote his new flick, River's Edge. Yet instead of discussing the 1986 crime drama, Glover brought his own drama — and almost a whole lot of crime — to set. Sporting a bad wig and platform heels, Glover spent his short-lived appearance lamenting about alleged tabloid headlines before nearly roundhouse kicking Letterman in the face, prompting the presenter to walk off set to "check on the Top 10."
Considering Glover has long glazed over the incident — "I neither confirm nor deny that I was ever on the David Letterman show" — the world may never know whether his erratic behavior was the result of drugs, a mental health crisis or a hilariously elaborate bit that some cite as a character study for his 1991 film, Rubin & Ed.
But even with these lingering mysteries, one thing is certain: These 21 stills from Glover's appearance sure tell the story.
